The row over censor issues of Ameerin Aadhi-Bhagavan is getting intensified with a member of censor board has decided to take on the director in the corridors of law. Obviously provoked by Ameer’s accusation of Censor Board functioning in Mafila style, R.N. Amirtharaja, one of the members of the Regional Censor Censor Board, Chennai, has filed a complaint with the city police commissioner seeking action against director-actor Ameer.
In a signed complaint, the Member has said “Ameer presented his film to the Board on 05th February for censorship. When we watched the film, we found plenty of obscene sequences in the film and had strictly told him that the Board could give nothing less than an ‘A’ certificate to the film. Ameer, however, argued that those sequences were necessary for the film’s good-show in theatres.
“He then said he was ready to pay ‘whatever amount’ needed to get a ‘U’ certification as only it would allow students to watch the film. When it was informed to him that he shouldn’t be speaking in that manner, he came down and offered to cut some scenes. The Board still asked him to cut down more sequences and when he refused, passed the film with an ‘A’ certification.
“Ameer threatened us saying that if we didn’t reverse our decision, he would publish maligning information about us in the print media. We didn’t get cowed down by his threat. Ameer has recently said that the Board functioned in a ‘Mafia’ style which is maligning the name of a Central Government body and would mislead the public.
“As such, we request that action be initiated against Ameer for speaking in such a manner and for threatening us,” the complaint said and demanded police protection for the members of the Board.
