‘Happy Birthday Thala’

428488_575598885808209_2028463746_nBorn to a Pallakad Brahmin father and a Sindhi mother in the city of Secunderabad in 1971, one of the most prominent personalities of the age clocks 42 years in his calendar today. Actor-racer Ajith celebrates his birthday today with not just his family and friends but also the scores of fans, all of who are close to his heart.

History began shaping up in the late 80's when Ajith dropped out of high school, following his boyish charm of being a mechanic. He got himself a job in a shed where the vigour of his dream, of becoming a bike/car racer took shape. He put his talent to test in races, with the continuous helping hand extended towards him from his friends, who used to support him from cheering him to lending him tyres when his own wore out.

No matter how hard to hid behind the solid helmets, his handsome features with the twinkle in his sparkling eyes could just not go unnoticed. It was this aspect that earned him a ticket to the screens. The rise of his career was quick and steady, starting at age 18, when he first joined as an apprentice and soon became a merchandiser in export business, at age 21. His highly compelling attractive looks made sponsors and advertisers throng him from time to time for advertisements and modelling, making for a strong career in parallel.

It was not until the 90's that anybody anticipated a sensational storm to hit the silver screen. Ajith started off as an actor, with his debut, and to date, the only out-and-out Telugu film, in a supporting role, in ‘Prema Pustakam’ in 1992. His break in Tamil happened with director Selva’s ‘Amaravathi’, in which actor Vikram dubbed for Ajith.

What followed was a small role in another hunk of the town, Aravind Swamy’s ‘Paasamalargal’ and the lead role in the heart touching family story, ‘Pavithra’. Soon afterwards, the actor had too many awards and handle, apart from a continuously growing fan base. His success with director Vasanth’s ‘Aasai’ laid the stepping stone for his critically applauded National Award winning film of director Agathiyan’s ‘Kadhal Kottai’.

Meanwhile, Ajith was often spotted on screen with his special appearances and roles, though he turned down a few blockbuster projects like ‘Neruku Ner’ and ‘Aval Varuvala’. Ajith was the first to be awarded one of the highest salaries of that decade, at a remuneration totalling to a couple of millions, for ‘Ullasam’. Though there were a few movies that did not do well in the box office, his success story nullified all the loss. Starting with Ramesh Khanna’s ‘Thodarum’, it was a series of success for the big actor.

One of the most notable films of his career happened with Sj Suryaah’s thriller movie ‘Vaali’ that earned him the first of the many Filmfare Award for Best Actor. The next movie was equally big, not only in the box office, but also in his personal life. Saran’s ‘Amarkalam’, alongside Shalini, was not only a commercial hit, but also paved the path for him to tie the knot with the heroine. They have been a happy couple since the millennium year, 2000. He became a happy father to a gorgeous girl, Anoushka, in January 2008.

The boom in his filmdom continued after his marriage, with his unique roles in ‘Mugavaree’ and AR Rahman musical ‘Kandukondain Kandukondain’. It was director Murugadoss’ debut movie ‘Dheena’ that awarded him the title that he’s known by today, ‘Thala’. His trend setting continued with films like ‘Citizen’, ‘Red’ and ‘Asoka’. While ‘Poovellam Un Vasam’ earned him the Special Best Actor Award from Tamil Nadu State, his distinguished role in ‘Villain’ earned him his second National Award.

Then came a slump in the big screen story line when Ajith was spotted actively romancing the race track. He finished 4th in Formula Maruti Indian Championships in 2002, which paved his path to Formula BMW Asia Championship. He signed on the dotted line with manager Akbar Ebrahim to race in the inaugural. Despite his spin off in the first lap, his comeback was phenomenal, finishing at 7th at the end of the season. After more than half a decade from then, Ajith returned to the tracks in 2010.

He competed in the finals of MRF Racing Series in Chennai, in the month of February that year, but unfortunately could not finish owing to mechanical failure. However, this helped him score in his rigorous trials in Sepang, Malaysia, for the 2010 season of FIA Formula Two Championship, beginning in April. He drove his Formula Renault V6 and was noted to have shed 11 kilos during training! Till date, our Thala is the only Indian actor who is not only an active racer, but also a racer with the distinction of racing in the international arena.

The period between his racing hiatus till date is termed to have crowned him with the exalted status of super stardom. Following the unsatisfactory performance of ‘Paramasivan’ and ‘Thirupathi’, happened one of his biggest films to date, serving for a comeback, with ‘Varalaru’. Movies like ‘Aalwar’ and the remake of Malayalam blockbuster, ‘Kireedam’ kept turning the wheel until the big bang happened.

Turning out to be a stand-alone mega hit movie, with perfection and precision in every aspect, director Vishnuvardhan’s ‘Billa’, the remake of Superstar’s yesteryear blockbuster by the same title, was s runaway hit. The film portrayed Ajith as a suave don and a smooth criminal, rendering to traverse to the heights of style. After the biggest hit of all times, average runners like ‘Aegan’ and ‘Aasal’ kept his spirits up, until Venkat Praahu’s ‘Mankathaa’ happened. Yet another movie that portrayed him in a negative role, has not only added to his heroic fame but also marked his 50th film in the industry.

This film was followed by a prequel to the epic hit ‘Billa’, referred to as ‘Billa 2'. This film garnered mixed responses, many complaining the climax to be blunt. However, this was no threat to his ever growing fame and fan base. Now, under a mountain of expectation, the actor’s next, ‘Valai’ with director Vishnuvardhan is anticipated with the highest of expectations. Celebrating his birthday, the team released a teaser for this movie at midnight and having watched that, fans are only all the more happy to welcome the movie.

Apart from being a phenomenal actor, peerless racer, humble son, dear brother, passionate husband and a lovely dad, Ajith is also a humanitarian. He founded the NPO Mohini-Mani Foundation, named after his parents, to promote self hygiene and civic consciousness, in order to ease the urban sprawl. And this date, 42 years back, gifted the world with a handsome package of class and humility. To the simpleton who blows 42 candles on his cake today, we at Indiaglitz wish a bunch of happiness and a career full of happiness. Happy birthday Thala!

Naan Rajavaga Pogiren – Tamil Movie Review

The film features Nakul, Chandni and newcomer Avani Modi in the lead roles.

Naan Rajavaga Pogiren Stills 3 586×358 Naan Rajavaga Pogiren review

Movie: Naan Rajavaaga Pogiren

Content is King and Tamil cinema has been electrified with brand new conceptualizations that has been happening over the period of the past few months. A lot of brilliant ideas and a scintillating screenplay have engrossed the audience and in all likelihood, director Prithviraj Kumar should have come up with similar ideas. Apparently, he succeeds to a good extent and that’s due to an effective narration. Before a couple of months, Vishal’s ‘Samar’ had broken the usual paradigm (the film didn’t perform well in box office, but eventually spelt a different note on the dual role concept). Much alike, Prithviraj Kumar draws himself closer to such a concept of handling a simple story, but with a difference.

Naan Rajavaga Pogiren Tamil Movie 586×324 Naan Rajavaga Pogiren review

The film opens with Raja (Nakul) seen locking horns with few baddies and is hit by a lorry. It’s a few months later, we are commuted to Himachal Pradesh, where we find Jeeva (again played by Nakul), a lookalike of Raja leads a peaceful life with his mother (Seetha). On an incident, when an army personnel misinterpret him to be his college friend Raja, Jeeva turns inquisitive over finding the whereabouts of his identical personality and on the journey comes across Raja’s close friend Reema (Avani Modi). What unfolds next is a wild search of Raja? Will Jeeva find and meet him? You’ll have to watch the rest over the screens.

Perhaps, after you are through a vivid analysis of the film post – show, you might find it to be a little hackneyed in its basic theme, but the narration would keep you intact and unobstructed through the film. The suspense element crafted by the filmmaker and a good writing stands out as the major attraction of this film. Regardless of some weak traits, these very factors attribute to the pacy momentum in screenplay.

On the performance level, Nakul has showcased a lot of mature performance than his previous films. Perhaps, the long hiatus should have offered a lot of learning phase to the actor. The actor embellishes the characters of Raja and Jeeva with a decent approach, but the caricature of the latter one seems to be too artificial as Nakul’s childish acts doesn’t favour anywhere in the film. Chandni doesn’t get much to score, but keeps herself visible with a good performance. Be it to the glamorous appeal or challenging sequence, she tries to win praise and this girl succeeds well too. Avani Modi as a girl stuck between her emotions of love and friendship for Nakul does justice to her role. Filmmaker Venkatesh in negative role is good in places and hits the bull’s eyes.

Naan Rajavaga Pogiren Stills 2 586×368 Naan Rajavaga Pogiren review

On the technical front, GV Prakash’s musical score enhances the visual elements to a decent degree. This might be a new genre of music for the music director, but excels with a panache. Cinematography serves up to the good with a commendable visual composition and editing is sleek in places.

Overall, Naan Rajavaga Pogiren incisively travels with gripping moments that keeps us engaged.

Verdict: Can watch it once…

With such a thunderous response already, there is no doubt Thala’s fans are waiting to break in on the day of his 53rd movie release. However, director Vishnuvardhan is being flooded with congratulatory messages from Thala fans, who once complained of the lack of promotions preceding the movies release.

With the well crafted teaser, they now totally understand why Vishnu kept the title of the movie, a closely guarded secret. All that was need was a mass dialogue from Thala – ‘Title innum Vaikala’ – in response to a question regarding the assignment name. In fact, these days, those three words, are on the lips of every Thala fan as they quip back in style, when asked about the title of their front man’s upcoming action thriller.

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s brassy intro and cinematographer Om Prakash are also being lauded for their contribution, towards the slick appeal of the trailer apart from Nayanthara and Arya who have added shimmer to the lineup of Vishnuvardhan’s yet untitled flick.Stay tuned till we bring you the release date of this promising entertainer from Ajith’s camp, the countdown has already begun, Tik Tok Tik Tok.

Vijay sings for Ajith

vijay_30413_mThe Ajith-Vijay friendship is known to all. Both the actors are good friends while their wives holds good rapport with each other too. The latest is that Ajith was present at the shooting spot of ‘Thalaivaa’ since the Ajith-Vishnu project is also happening at Mumbai. The friends seemed to have a long chat during which Ajith requested Vijay to sing the song that he had sung for Thalaivaa. On hearing it, he wished Vijay good luck and assured that the song would do well on its release and that it would be one of the best in his career. Kudos to their friendship!

Meanwhile both the films have neared their final stages. We may expect these stars’ film to hit the screens soon.

Yaaruda Mahesh – Tamil Movie Review

Yaaruda-Mahesh-Movie-StillsYaaruda Mahesh is a 2013 Tamil romantic comedy film directed by R. Madhan Kumar, starring Sundeep Kishan and Dimple Chopade. It also has the likes of Jagan, Srinath, Livingston, Uma Padmanaban, Swaminathan, Singamuthu and Nellai Siva supporting the lead.

The film has been shot around Chennai and Kerala. The film produced by Red Studios and Colour Frames. The film’s soundtrack and background score were composed by Gopi Sunder, while Raana handled the cinematography

Movie: Yaaruda Mahesh
Directed by R. Madhan Kumar
Produced by Antony Nawaz, Sathya Narayanan, R. Madhan Kumar
Written: R. Madhan Kumar
Star Cast: Sundeep Kishan as Shiva, Dimple Chopade as Sindhya, Jagan as Vasanth, Srinath as Randy, Livingston, Uma Padmanabhan, Swaminathan, Singamuthu, Nellai Siva, Venkat Sundar as Military, Sana Oberoi
Music: Gopi Sunder
Cinematography Raana
Studio: Colour Frames, Red Studios
Distributed by Anbu Pictures

Sudden release of heavy flood on newfangled themes conquered the theatres from last year and definitely, this should have propelled filmmaker Madhan Kumar to craft a unique tale that would surely keep its foot on winning square. A feel-good entertainer might not be an exact adjective to delineate this flick with every scene loaded with double entendre slangs that will let you wriggle your heads, especially if you’re watching this film with your family.

yaaruda mahesh 22 586×928 Yaaruda Mahesh review

Shiva (Sundeep) is a happy-go-lucky youngsters, who spends his time boozing with his friend Vasanth (Jagan). On his first sight, he falls in love with a beautiful girl Sindhya (Dimple Chopade) and she becomes pregnant much prior to her marriage. A single scene of conflict between two families followed by a short note – After few years shows them happily married with a beautiful baby boy. On an unexpected turn, Shiva clandestinely listens to the telephonic conversation between Sindhya and a person named ‘Mahesh’ only to get blown out of waters that he isn’t the father of their kid.

What unfolds next is Shiva’s vigorous hunt to find who this Mahesh is? Will he able to accomplish and reveal the true colours of his wife? Or is there something else that he doesn’t know what is actually happening?

Mature themes can be received well if it carrries a substantial element of narration or else a film like ‘Vicky Donor’ would have not fetched so many National awards. Madhan Kumar has picked a right script, but the illogical quotients just break down the entire work. First of all, an entire film laced with double entendres would obviously cause an annoyance. Secondly, what goes wrong with the script is it takes a long time for the film to reveal the conflict. The suspense element laced with humour is quite okay, but a series of flashbacks from few people hampers the momentum. Nevertheless, a big question arises during climax that would any woman have such a thought in reality. Well, revealing more than this will be a spoiler and you’ll watch for it over the screens.

On the performance level, Sundeep makes a casual appearance and having won incredible praises for his performance in Telugu and Hindi movies, this isn’t the kind of movie he should have opted his debut for. His tremendous work in ‘Shor in the City’ was so complimenting and this one is actually half the way down. Dimple Chopade looks beautiful with her makeover and costumes, but doesn’t find a right scope to perform. Jagan in the name of tickling your funny bones leaves you irked after a certain extent. Livingstone, Uma Padmanabhan, Swaminathan, Srinath and others have done a good job.

Yaaruda Mahesh 586×337 Yaaruda Mahesh review

Cinematography by Raana deserves appreciations for he offers the best visual treat in both talkie and song sequences and Gopi Sunder gives a mediocre effort over his songs and background.

On the whole, ‘Yaaruda Mahesh‘ doesn’t exceed your expectations for its onionskin elements in screenplay and if presented in a crisp manner sans the double entendre it would have been at least an average fare.

Verdict: A spoilsport with too many double entendres & illogical elements.

Photos: Surya-Gautham Menon’s Dhruva Natchathiram takes off

x02-1367486819-surya-03.jpg.pagespeed.ic.sj5oyvqKgbSurya and Gautham Menon are joining hands again. The combo, which had delivered hits like Kaakha Kaakha, Pachaikili Muthucharam and Vaaranam Aayiram, are teaming up for Dhruva Natchathiram.

Their last ventures together – Kaakha Kaakha, which was later remade in Hindi as Force, and romantic Vaaranam Aayiram – were successful at the Box Office.

The muhurat of the Dhruva Natchathiram was held today (May 2) at Gautham Menon’s Photon Kathas office. The movie launch function was organised around 7.30 in the morning in the presence of key members of the film unit.

Surya, who has been busy shooting for his upcoming Tamil action-drama Singam 2, took the day off to attend the launch, which also saw the presence of actor Parthepan, directors Ram, Prem Sai and Vignesh, writer Charu Nivetha, Madhan Karky, Vasanta Bhavan Ravi along with lyricist Madhan Karky.

Has Gautham Menon dropped Jai-starrer Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum

Tamil-Selvanum-Thaniyaar-Anjalum-Movie-First-LookThe latest talk in the industry is that the upcoming film Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum, produced by ace director Gautham Vasudev Menon, is as good as ‘dropped’.

Unconfirmed reports further say that though Jai, who plays the hero in Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum, has a huge faith in the film’s script, Menon is apprehensive about the film’s showing at the box-office and is said to be looking for an appropriate ‘producer-cum-distributor’ who can take up the film’s production from now onwards so that he (Menon) can remain unruffled by the film’s future at the box-office.

Despite featuring in some super-duper hit films, Jai hasn’t been able to build a ‘star’ status around himself and his stature in the industry is no better than the likes of Vimal and Sivakarthikeyan. These heroes, who are in the next rung after the likes of Dhanush and Simbu, are the safe bets of small and medium-budget producers. Jai, however, takes his own time in deciding as to whether a particular script would suit him or not.

In order to make Menon’s job easier, Jai is said to be approaching some leading producers and distributors as he tries his best to convince them to take up the film’s production and reap the benefits of the same at the box-office. It remains to be seen as to whether Jai succeeds in his efforts made on behalf of Menon.

Horror thriller Shivani given a UA certificate

Shivani_resizeDebutante director Sai Gokul Ramnath, who has been a former assistant to KV Anand, is in the mood to release Shivani. Just like the director, it is also a maiden production venture for Hansraj Saxena, who is funding this project under his banner Sax Pictures.

Featuring Nitin Sathya, Kavya Shetty, Lakshmi Nayyar and Baby Karthika, the movie was under review with the censor board for the last couple of days. Ever since the stills from the shoots made it online, it is clear that this entertainer is geared towards being a horror thriller. So if you are heading for the theater, be sure that you are all set to see eyes oozing in blood, damsels in distress and much more from this camp.

As expected the censor board officials have denied the movie a U and rightly given it a U/A certificate. That is not bad, considering the amount of gore the movie endorses. The list of performers also include Chandru,Vaali ,Murali, Neelima, Ammu, Srinath, Chamms and Subbu in supporting roles with editor J Laxman and the composer duo of Sreejith and Saachin. The release date of Shivani will soon be revealed so stay tuned!

After going through a couple of scripts including a few sent by Dhanush’s online followers, the actor locked the script written by RS Durai Senthilkumar. With writer himself taking the mantle of direction department, the hunt for the lead stars begun. The team headed by Dhanush roped in Sivakarthikeyan and Priya Anand, who are familiar faces in Tamil films, instead roping newbies to star in the movie.

Thalaivaa to release in June on Vijay’s birthday

Vijay’s-ThalaivaaThe post-production work in connection with Vijay’s upcoming film Thalaivaa has been going on at full-throttle. Sources close to A.L. Vijay, who has directed Vijay in Thalaivaa, say that the film is likely to hit the screens on 22nd June on the eve of the star’s birthday.

Thalaivaa has many firsts to its credit: it’s the first film under the Vijay-Vijay combo, it’s the first film for rising heroine Amala Paul opposite Vijay and it’s also the first time that the soon-to-wed G.V. Prakash Kumar would be scoring music for a Vijay-starrer. The film’s shoot was recently wrapped up after its last schedule in Australia.

Fans are awaiting the release of Thalaivaa with renewed interest as they expect a ‘strong’ political message from Vijay. The title and the still photographs of the film have created some understanding among fans that this could be the film where Vijay would give them ‘clear direction’ vis-à-vis his political ambitions and future plans.

The audio-launch of the film would be held in the second week of May to be followed by the film’s theatrical release on 22nd May on the eve of Vijay’s birthday. If it happens, Vijay’s fans would have twin reasons to celebrate.

On the other hand, Andrea denied this love affair.

At this juncture, efforts were taken to make Andrea to pair with Fahaad Fazil in a Malayalam film titled North 24 Kaatham. Andrea has denied acting in this film. Vishal appreciates Arjun’s daughter

VishalandArjundaughterPattathu Yaanai is a film which has Vishal in the lead role. Action King Arjun’s daughter Aishwarya is debuting as a heroine in this film. This film which is being produced by Michael Rayappan is being directed by Boopathy Pandian. The shooting of this film has taken place in Madurai, Trichy, Srirangam and Karaikudi.

Vishal while speaking about this film said, “I am donning the role of catering youngster. I try to start a hotel along with my friends. Whether I was able to do this is narrated in a comedy entertaining manner.

Boopathy Pandian has directed this film without giving any message and with the only intention of filling the coffers. Lots of expectations have risen since Arjun’s daughter Aishwarya has donned the female lead role in this film. Aishwarya has no fear for the camera. She has lots of talents. She does not look like a new face. She acts with dedication in every scene. She has lots of self confidence. We are happy that she has acted first in our film.”

Actress Aishwarya while speaking said, “Pattathu Yaanai is my first film. I have acted very arduously in this film. The role which I am donning this film has no connection with my real life. Vishal was very helpful to me. My father Arjun has also taught me lots of things. The film has come out well. Kissing sequences and glamour depends on the story. I approach them professionally. There were rumours that I fainted during the shooting. There is no truth in this news.”

Director Boopathy Pandian while speaking said, “I have directed a serious story in a comedy way. There are also fighting sequences in this film. Santhanam is donning dual roles in this film.”

‘Jilla’: Mohanlal is godfather

MohanlalIn the cast of Ilayathalapathy Vijay‘s upcoming flick ‘Jilla‘, it has been reiterated time and again that Mohanlal plays a crucial role in the film. The latest on this is that he plays the role of a Godfather.

The word ‘Jilla‘ roughly translates to ‘head of the gang’, and in ‘Jilla‘, Mohanlal is said to play a respectable head in Madurai, while Vijay is his successor. For this Madurai-based film, a huge set is being erected in Chennai, to resemble a typical Madurai-style house.

Mahat plays the role of Vijay‘s brother in the film. He says that his role is pivotal and that he has three songs along with Vijay. ‘Jilla‘ has Vijay, Mohanlal, Kajal Agarwal, Poornima Baghyraj, Mahat, Soori and Thambi Ramaiah to its star cast.

The film is directed by Nesan and the cinematographer is Natraj. Music for the film has been scored by Imman. This film is the 85th for Super Good Films.

Ganja Karuppu turns producer

kanj_031613_mWise were the ones who said that change is the only constant. Producers become directors, musicians become actors and comedians become producers – with K-town, there is always enough news to be surprised about. Along those lines, now Ganja Karuppu has decided to produce a project that he will act in, which is titled ‘Velmurugan Borewell’. Ganja Karuppu has roped in Gopi for directing his film, that is produced under the banner Tharun Kaanth Film Factory.

The full length comedy caper has Mahesh of ‘Angadi Theru’ fame and Aarushi in the lead roles. Director Gopi says “This is a thorough comedy entertainer. The audience will see a funny yet different Ganja Karuppu in the film.” It is worth mentioning that Gopi previously directed ‘Malayan’ starring actor Karan.

Vathikuchi Movie Review

16-1363412449-vathikuchi-01Rating: 3.0/5

A little bit of romance, action, comedy, suspense and few heroic moments make a good entertaining film of standards that can attract audiences from all categories. Debutant Kinslin’s slick crime-thriller Vathikuchi with ignorable cliches passes with distinction in becoming a truly commercial entertainer for the masses. What works in the favour of the film, despite stiff criticism from the elite class audiences, is the offbeat presentation of a simple story. Sakthi (Dhileban), a share auto driver, likes to go out of his way to help strangers without any hidden agenda. Over the course of time, his helping tendency only grows stronger to the level where he confronts injustice and in turn earns the ire of three baddies.

Cut to his routine life – he is madly in love with Leena (Anjali), who likes to receive all attention, but wouldn’t reciprocate. As he tries desperately like any sane lover would do to impress her, the film shifts gears and introduces a series of events that would propel Sakthi into combat and self-protection mode. Who looks sexy in bikini/swimsuit – Nayantara, Namitha, Anushka, Priyamani…? Cast Your Vote With three baddies after his life, how does Sakthi save himself from the clutches of death? This forms the rest of the story.

The film kicks off convincingly with a pinch of suspense quite early on in the narrative. Three characters expressing their misfortune and pointing fingers at the same person, who they aspire to kill. What I really loved in this film is the fact that the script is not written keeping in mind a hero and three villains. The director very intelligently allows a series of events to let the character pit against each other allowing a revenge sort of story to develop. Also Read Paradesi Review One of the common criticisms was that the story needed a familiar face instead of Dhileban. I beg to differ by saying that it’s a story about a common man rising against anti-social activities. We can’t expect a common man to be Shahrukh Khan or Aamir Khan, can we?

Anjali claims to be on good terms with her co-stars

Anjali1Finding genuine friendship or feelings of warmth among actresses in any film industry is certainly a rare thing. Actress Anjali is, however, different from the rest of the pack whether it comes to choosing her roles or choosing her friends from within the fraternity of actresses.

It’s too early yet trade circles have already given ‘thumbs up’ to Anjali’s performance in the film Vathikuchi which hit the screens yesterday. On the eve of the film’s release, Anjali shared her views about the film and on other issues. Queried about her opting to pair up with newcomers at regular intervals without any qualms, Anjali replied that she chose her films based on the scripts and not the heroes.

“A lot is said about actresses indulging in rat race and being not friendly with each other. However, I share warm relations with all the heroines. Some of them recently wrote that Samantha and I are not on good terms; yet, it’s a fact that Samantha has said many times that she’s a great fan of me. It would be better if the writers check the versions of the news items they are getting before publishing them.

“In Telugu films, there is stiff competition among heroines. In my recent Telugu film, I starred along side Samantha and had a jolly time on the sets. In fact, Shruti Haasan and I are best friends and frequently talk to each other over phone. What is noticeable about Shruti is that she doesn’t have any starry airs about her despite being the great Kamal Haasan’s daughter. She has plenty to learn from and I’m making best use of our friendship.

“I don’t have time to react to all rumours about me; I feel it’d be better to concentrate in my career than reacting to all that has been said about me,” concludes Anjali.

Arjun awarded ‘the best actor’ award for Kannada film “Prasad”

c9edd318-1b44-41ba-809b-27600fd8ad83OtherImageBangalore-born Tamil actor Arjun received ‘the best actor’ award for his commendable performance in the Kannda flick “Prasad”. Directed by Manoj Sathi, the movie stars Arjun and Madhuri Bhattacharya in the lead roles. Though the actor was born in Bangalore, he had predominantly acted only in Tamil films. He is famous for retaining his excellent physique and is fondly called as “action king”.

Having acted in more that 100 films in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages, the actor received this award for his excellent performance in the Kannanda movie which does not have a single stunt scene.it.

The film’s script is an emotion-filled one and is all about the special bonding shared by a middle-class father and his deaf-and-dumb boy. The award has, no doubt, gladdened Arjun’s heart. “This is the first time I’m winning an award in Kannada and I’m very happy about it,” says Arjun.

“I have won some awards in Tamil and feel proud that Sandalwood has finally honoured me with an award,” reveals Arjun.

Ilayaraja for Bollywood once again

raja_031613_mDirector Balki of the emotionally high ‘Paa’ fame is excited. The reason? Isaignani has agreed to work with him in his next flick! It is well known that Ilayaraja for music and PC Sreeram for cinematography are Balki’s sheer favourites. Now the maestros are joining hands for yet another B-town success, the details of which are not out yet.

Though south Indian stalwarts are to support the movie in full swing for its success, there will be no on-screen presence of a south Indian fame face. The project will go on the floors in October. “The film is a drama, and will have an interesting cast from Bollywood. I am very excited to work with Ilayaraja and PC Sreeram. Ilayaraja has already composed for two of my previous films, which were grand successes. To me Ilayaraja means music, and the converse is also true. As long as he composes for me, I will only be too happy” says the director, Balki.

Anushka and Priyamani keeping their spirits high in-spite of cases

71079ecf-c362-4f85-96f5-d18c31214638OtherImageIt maybe noted that a social activist from Hyderabad had filed cases against actresses Anushka and Priyamani for appearing in ‘provoking’ costumes in their respective latest Telugu releases Mirchi and Thikka. Reacting on the subject, both of them have expressed their strong objections to the filing of the case. Following the filing of the case by the social activist, the Court had directed the police to watch these films and file a reply. The police are now said to be watching the recent films of these actresses to find out as to which sequence in which film has them appearing in a manner bordering on vulgarity.
It is expected that cases would be filed against them in the coming days. Reacting to this, Anushka has said “The filing of the case is a cheap publicity stunt and I’m not at all worried about it. Just because I am show sexily in some sequences of the film, I don’t think a case ought to be filed in a Court. I’d love to ask those who are against me to watch my performance in the upcoming film Rani Rudramma and then do whatever they want.”

Priyamani, the national award-winning actress for her performance in the Tamil film Paruthiveeran, has said that “I have never appeared in a vulgarish manner in any of my films. In fact, in the particular sequence referred to by the petitioner, I appear clad in a saree and dancing to the tune. Is wearing a saree considered obscene in India?”

Hope the two actresses do not land in trouble.

Gautham Menon’s backlash against offenders

images (1)His past couple of movies might have not fared well in box office and won critical acclaims, but he holds special mention for delivering some commendable movies in the past 13 years of South industry.

Gautham Menon and RS Infotainments Eldred Kumar were in bitter terms as the latter one filed a case that former had agreed to do a film getting advance and later failed.

Reacting to this, Gautham Menon in his press release says, “The case has been dismissed by the High Court and it’s a baseless rumour that the Eldred Kumar has once again sent us a legal notice.

Film is a profession for me to put food on table for my family and making money is my birth right”, who continues to add that he has been left desolated without any support from anyone in the industry.

Student’s power can bring a change: Simbu

simbuRecently Silambarasan made his presence felt at the protest event against Srilanka, organised by city students.

Simbu, who turned up dressed in simple white casual shirt and khaki trouser, was immensely impressed with the efforts put by students to host such an eye-opening protest. He is of opinion that students, who are generally associated with strikes and fights, with this campaign proved that they are also capable of doing constructive activity.

“I’m very happy to be part of this campaign organised by these students. I really appreciate to see these young people come together to support such a cause,” said Simbu.

Simbu stated that he supports only those events which he thoroughly believes in, and that’s the reason why he is there on the protest spot, “I have not come here as a celebrity or as an actor; but only to take part as a common man; as a Tamilian. My father, who kept my name as Silambarasan, had been part of several campaigns that supports Tamil causes.”

Noticing that there is a Telugu girl in the protest group, Simbu remarked that when she can support for a Tamil campaign, why we as a Tamilian can’t be a part of the protest.

STR also highlighted the power of students and how it can make a great difference in society. Going by the saying that drop by drop will make a huge ocean; he stated that no matter how small the efforts are, it will gradually grow over to make a big change.

Acknowledging the hardships face by Tamilians in Sri Lanka, the actor signed off saying that he strongly believes that they will surely get a good solution to solve their miseries.

It can be noted that Simbu showcased the power of students in his earlier hit film ‘Kovil’, in which he played a college student.

The thriller Adiyum Andamum

movieAdiyumAndamumLife they say is a circle, the beginning is the end and the end is where it all begins. This is no psychological ranting but the plot of the upcoming movie Adiyum Andamum. Norm in the industry today is to choose a script that is neat, straight forward and simple, the young director Kaushik is cut out of a different mould, thinking out of the box to scheme a psychological plot that will thrill the audience.

The script has been ably encouraged by the producers RSR and NK Kraft Private Limited. The cast and the crew of the film have braved the bone crunching cold of Ooty to make the movie aesthetically brilliant and now would proceed to Hyderabad, Chennai and Pudhucherry for further schedules of the shoot.

While D.S.Vaasan handles the camera for the thriller the film has technicians par excellence in the form of Music Director L.V. Ganesan son of the legendary music director L.Vaidhyanathan, editor M.Rameshbharathi and lyricist Na.Muthukumar. Ajaay holds the centre stage as the hero being supported by heroines Mitali Agarwal, Kavita Srinivasan and character artists Ramanathan, Yvaan Swang have been working day and night with the vagaries of weather to make the project an astounding success quotes the director who has the additional responsibility of Screenplay, Dialogue, Direction and has also penned lyrics for the flick with Na.Muthukumar.

Gautham Menon’s Plea for Support

gauthaman15313_m1Respected members of the ?lm fraternity, I am a ?lmmaker. I’ve made Minnale, Kaakha Kaakha, Vettaiyadu Villaiyadu, Varanam Aaayiram, Patchaikili Muthucharam, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, Nadunisi naaygal and Neethaane En Ponvasantham. I have made these ?lms with some of whom, I consider the best talent we have in the south. And I believe these 13 years of making these ?lms has earned me the right to talk to you.

Over the last 8 weeks, I have maintained a digni?ed silence against news reports and press articles claiming that RS Infotainment has got an injunction order preventing me from directing any movie. RS Infotainment is jointly run by Mr. Jayaram and Mr. Elred Kumar. But as far as the ?lm industry is concerned, Mr. Elred is the face of the company. And any future reference to Elred, Jayaram or RS is to be understood in this context. Let me ?rst tell you that the injunction petition ?led by RS has been dismissed by the courts . The Injunction petition ?led by RS has been dismissed by the courts upholding my stand in the issues raised by RS and also proving that what was being done by RS or asked by RS was not right on any grounds. My ability to work and earn for myself is my birthright and as the law says its my constitutional right-and no one should be able to take that away from me.

But of course, this is also a free country and one can ?le a case-legitimate or for other reasons-against anyone. The other reasons could be harassment, discrediting an individual, cornering him and bullying him into succumbing to the pressure and duress you have put him under. In fact, it is shocking and also amusing that Mr. Elred Kumar has supposedly gone on record to say to some respected members of the producer’s council that unless I give into his demands, he will ?le ‘case after case against me and make me run around.’

And so, as warned, there is another article carried out yesterday that says our lawyers have received a notice from RS (again). My lawyers are con?dent of this case as well being decided in my favour on account of the falsity of the case of RS.

But this isn’t about the law. This isn’t even about me running around battling these cases and media reports instead of being able to write and make movies-which is my means of putting food on the table for my family. This is about me. My character, my intent and my credibility which has been put on the stand. And though ideally there should be unions or committees in place in an industry as big as ours to support and help me ?ght these un-wanted battles, I ?nd myself alone and reduced in the spotlight.

If I truly did believe there was any merit to these accusations, I would never put myself out here appealing to the good sense of the community. I would have slunk quietly into a hole, called for a negotiation and sorted the matter out in the comfort of 4 walls protecting my privacy. But I have no such reason to worry. I know I am right and I can’t go down without a ?ght. A ?ght-not about money or about doing ?lms. But about clearing my name.

Which I’ve begun to realize is the true target in all of this. Mr.Elred has supposedly told my previous partner Mr.Madan Pandy that he would let him off in the case if Mr.Madan Pandy turned against me. As for the claim Elred has made- that we signed a letter in 2008 saying I would do a ?lm for him, it is evident to anyone who works in this industry or who follows ?lms that since 2008, I have done not one but four ?lms with RS Infotainment.

In fact there was no need for me to have done more than one ?lm, but at the end of every ?lm, I would be under duress to do yet another ?lm for RS Infotainment. In fact, 20 days into the shooting of Ek Deewana tha, and after promising us and Fox (the co-producers) that the rights will be transferred, he refused signing off on the remake rights and agreed to transfer them ONLY if I signed ANOTHER agreement claiming I would do one more ?lm for him. This was the ?lm that was made as Neethaane En Ponvasantham.

Now he has supposedly claimed that the ?lm was meant to be with Simbu. But the letter that I signed clearly indicates that the hero would be one of my choice.

If one were to not take into consideration for mere purposes of argumentEk deewana tha (being a hindi ?lm) and Nadunisi Naaygal (being a nonhero ?lm), though both were produced by RS infotainment, one must consider Neethane En Ponvasantham where the supposed ?rst choiceSimbu-refused to do a ?lm for Mr. Elred Kumar/RS Infotainment. We then cast Jiiva as the the hero of the ?lm. Jiiva-is a star with a credible market- and was actually put onto us through Mr. Elred Kumar, which leaves RS no space in claiming that they were not part of this decision. So it’s not that I haven’t directed a ?lm for RS as promised. In fact i have directed 4 ?lms for RS. And I have also used a star that was mutually acceptable to both me and Mr. Elred Kumar for Neethane Enn Ponnvasantham.

Over and above this, we have already invested approximately 1.5 crores on Mr. Elred’s behalf into the Hindi remake of VTV (we have paperwork to prove the same). In NEP as well, we took a cut in the budget of the ?lm for an amount of approximately 2.5+ crores. The money that Mr.Elred gave us in 2008 was for a ?lm that that got shelved due to Mr. Elred’s inability to keep up with the commitments as he had promised and documented. This money was spent by us in that production but as the ?lm got shelved due to his inability to keep up his commitments – how are we to blame? But i still directed 4 ?lms for Mr.Elred including NEP .

Not only did we take a budget cut in NEP, we also put in money into the project for the music composing that happened in London because it wasn’t about just business for me, it was about passion and making a good product. In spite of knowing that the project is owned by RS Infotainment and we will have no pro?t share or bene?t whatsoever, I spent money from my own pocket.

Also, it must be known that over these 4 ?lms I have not taken my complete director’s remuneration-which I would have rightfully earned-at market value-had I done a project for another producer.

I did all of this so that we could once and for all close out our dealings and NEP was meant to be the last ?lm. All this was discussed and signed in the presence of prominent personalities for the ?lm industry.. We also have emails from Mr.Elred con?rming this.

But there is a choice I made-something I considered to be the best choice for the ?lm given the genre and the sheer genius of the technician. This is the part which I ?nd most dif?cult to talk about. One of the biggest reasons Mr. Elred holds as my ‘mistake’ in NEP, was this choice I made of a certain senior technician. The same technician who added value in terms of sale rights much higher than RS could have expected. The same technician because of whom there was a tremendous buzz to the movie. And more importantly, at the felicitation of this senior technician-where 100 foreign musicians were ?own down for the function (which I spent for along with Jaya TV), Mr. Elred came up on stage and spoke as well. But he has said to me directly, and to others that it was this very choice that he holds against me and wants me to pay for. Would anyone consider that a ‘mistake’? And one that I must pay for so dearly?

I realize that producers need directors and directors need producers. And I am in no position to judge who is more important than the other-having played both roles myself. But this is not a con?ict between a producer and a director. Otherwise-it would have been sorted at a council meeting or with the intervention of other senior and established members of our industry. It’s an unsaid rule in the industry that people don’t arbitrarily ?le cases against each other and harass fellow members of the ?lm fraternity but RS infotainment has decided to break that rule.My last learning from all of this is that there are those with talent and those without. And those without will always latch on, feed off and try and survive off people with. And I know I still have my ability with me. This is a creative ?eld where ?lms have to be made with passion and love. And I only want to make ?lms that way.

Neethaane en Ponvasantham was made that way-with a lot of love and passion. Just because it didn’t perform as well as Mr.Elred expected is not a good enough reason to send a director a legal notice. He claims he tried to call me repeatedly, to discuss this issue, but I do not have a single call from him or text from him on my phone regarding this. The last text I received from him (which I still have) talks about how the ?lm has good reviews and even has a smiley attached to it. He claims he is friendly, still friends with me and has sent me the notice only to safeguard the company interests. Do friends send legal notices to each other? And a producer sends a legal notice to a director after the release of a ?lm -is that even healthy practice? As far as his company interests are concerned, I have explained above how his company interests have already been more than taken care of by me.

Today, as I write this, Mr. Elred has ?led yet another suit against me, claiming approximately 9.5 crores and to attach my house. Asking me the aforesaid money is unacceptable, asking me to do another ?lm is unreasonable, asking for attachment of my house is heartless and the work of a vengeful mind. Mr.Elred Kumar has many business interests and ?lms are not his livelihood unlike us – fellow members of the ?lm fraternity. For us ?lms are not only our sole livelihood but also our passion and life. He believes he can thus harass us by ?ling false cases as we do not have his ?nancial strength. But we have our love for ?lms and he cannot take that away from us.Like I said, I have directed 13 ?lms across three languages and I have even won a National award for Varanam Aayiram. My ?lms have been reasonable successes and I am a ?lm maker with heart. With all my experience, I would like to put a word of caution out to all those ?lm makers directing ?lms for producers who will take them to court if their ?lms do not succeed as expected by the producers, at the box of?ce – please be careful.

Please assist me and free me from the harassment of Mr. Elred.

With regards

Your humble and loving colleague

Paradesi Movie Review

ParadesiMovieReviewSpeechless!!! Remarkable!!! Lump in our throats!!

Mark our words… You wouldn’t walk out of theatres without uttering these words after watching Bala’s Paradesi. It’s not an easy deal for any filmmaker to easily travel back to an era of 1939 for making a film based on this crucial concept. We’re sure, it’s only Bala, who can take us back to a journey into a different world through his movies and this one isn’t an exception.

Paradesi is a clamorous drama of joy, desolation and vain in the lives of labourors, who worked under the cruel landlords of Tea Estate in Ooty.

First things first, it’s a brilliant concept by Bala and no one can beat him over this context of making such an intriguing film. Decades back, it was his mentor Balu Mahendra set new trends with a stunning climax (he broke the stereotypical conceptualization of hero and heroine joining hands together in a climax with ‘Moondraam Pirai’). Now, don’t expect this to be an usual kind of Bala film, where tragedy can be awaited at any time. Yes, there are more heart-wrenching drama, but the climax is so shockingly repellant that you wouldn’t able to judge – is it a boon or bane to the protagonist. The climax is more than enough for you to remain stuck to the seats for the next few minutes even after the final credits.

On the dot, we aren’t able to cherry-pick the special highlights of this film for each and every element here are fantabulous. Maybe, it’s time for Oscars to knock the Indian doors. “When a Lincoln and Argo can, why not a Paradesi?’ you would boast with puffed vanity with this statement and feel excessively imperious to the world for a Tamil film delivered with an excellence.

You would remain as one of those desolated characters in the film witnessing the roughshod lives of the innocent souls. There are certain hard things, but quite a reality on landlords bowing their heads to British and even turn up as a pimp to save their status. Oops! It’s more than a lump in our throats.
Atharva, you’re beyond brilliance and the performance etched in every frame is a chromatic illustration of how a performer should be. Vedhika doesn’t get much scope, but manages to keep herself under spotlights. More than all, Dhansika’s overpowering emoting skill holds us spellbound from beginning till end. Not to miss the granny of Atharva, who leaves us in splits with her witty lines.

On the technical front, GV Prakash almost reaches the status of Maestro Ilayaraja at such a young age. His re-recording spell keeps us enchanted letting us emote with the same reactions as with accordance to the onscreen drama. Finally, it’s Chezhian pushing us straight into the world of 1939 with his Sepia-toned cinematography. Every shot cranked in the handheld and Crane is brilliantly placed.

On the whole, ‘Paradesi’ should be listed in the one of the 10 world cinema and it is a tangible symbol of excellence for Indian audiences to have such a masterpiece delivered from the native soil…

Arivazhagan explains that why there is delay in Vallinam

Written By Unknown on Thursday 14 March 2013 | 09:49

VallinamVallinam is a film which has Nakul, Mrudhula, Siddhu and Amzath in the cast. This film has been directed by Arivazhagan who had earlier directed the film Eeram. When asked him about the delay of this film, he said, “I took a long time to pen the script in order to give a totally different kind of film.

A game has pain and strength. Vallinam is very strong word in Tamil. That is why I have titled this film as Vallinam. This film is not about basket ball competition. Normally if a film is based on some game, there will be clashes between two teams.

My film narrates the clashes between basket ball player and cricketer. Behind the games, there is another world. We have analysed about the politics in that world. There is also a mild romance in this film. Nakul has poured out his entire efforts in this film. I have introduced Mrudhula as heroine of this film. I had completed the story of this film in six months but it took one and half years to complete this film. I cannot point out any specific person for the delay.”

Samantha tells Bollywood it is Gautham or no one

SamanthaAfter her cameo appearance in Ekk Deewana Tha – the Hindi remake of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa by Gautham Menon, Samantha still prefers to confide under the umbrella of the renowned director. In fact her next Hindi appearance will also be for – Assi Nabbe Poorey Sau – a remake of Neethaane En Ponvasantham by Gautham.

Apart from the two Gautham directorials, this doe eyed gorgeous was recently approached for a role in the Hindi remake of Singham 2 featuring Ajay Devgan. Unlike, svelte beauty Tammanna who is creating an image for herself as the next Sri Devi in Bollywood, Samantha has declined this meaty offer.

However, she has plenty of offers at hand. Presently she is busy with her Telugu projects Saradha, Harish Shankar’s Untitled Project, Production No.4, Rabhasa and Manam 3G. Apart from those she also has Lingusamy’s Untitled Project waiting to go on floors, which has Surya in a lead role.

Looks like you if Bollywood really wants her on board for their projects, Gautham Menon is the man to speak to. What say Samantha, it is Gautham or no one?
